BACKGROUND

Purchased by the Gabb family in 2009, Mount Rozier was founded at the turn of the 19th century by Annie Rozier, a flower merchant. She picked wildflowers in the Schapenberg Hills surrounding her family’s homestead and famously, she also produced natural remedies and medicines for the local community.

In the 1920s, the Stellenbosch-based estate formed part of Myrtle Grove, where the first ever commercial plantings of Pinotage were grown in 1941 by Professor Perold.

Designed to stand out on back bars and on shelf, the Mount Rozier labels have a focus on bold colour, vibrancy and being unmistakably South African.

LOCATION & CONSERVATION

Mount Rozier’s name is inspired by Annie Rozier and the estate’s unique location, surrounded by the Hottentot and Helderberg mountains in the Stellenbosch winelands, which are home to an abundance of native flora and fauna, overlooking False Bay.

Sustainably and ethically producing Mount Rozier wines is at the heart of what we do, with the utmost respect given to the environment and local communities. We source our grapes from trusted partners across the Western Cape to create a range of fruit-forward, easy-drinking wines that are enjoyed by all.

The Mount Rozier Estate includes 30 ha of land set aside for conservation of indigenous plant and animal life. It is a buzzing hotbed of birds, mammals and fynbos. For this – we hold the prestigious accolade of World Wildlife Fund Conservation Champions.

WINEMAKER

Our dynamic winemaker, Leon Esterhuizen, meticulously sources top quality grapes from around the Western Cape. With cooling coastal breezes moderating the climate, warm days contrasted by cool evenings and local mountain ranges offering shelter for the vineyards, these are some of the most prestigious terroirs in South Africa.

Leon Esterhuizen uses progressive methods in the cellar to create a range of easy-drinking wines to suit all palates. These include a minimal intervention philosophy, fermentation and ageing in amphorae and concrete eggs, adding a complex while letting the natural character of the fruit shine.
